Joyeux Anniversaire!

"Everywhere you go, you shall find dramatic splendor and awe because your majestic soul is part of the vivid whole, and nothing about you is ignoble.”

ApothoGothic is officially one year old, Bebs! We couldn't be more excited - and we couldn't be more grateful to have you all on this journey with us.

Taylor and Lauren met on a film set only two years ago (we know, the number is crazy to us too). We love talking about how it was an unlikely friendship, but the Universe had other plans. Within 10 minutes of us meeting, we were both talking to each other like we had known each other for a million lifetimes already. Our conversation was immediately easy, fun, and flowed without stopping for the rest of the day. We haven't stopped talking since.

Fast forward six months and we decided to make scrubs, soaps, and candles as holiday gifts for our friends. We were both tired of the perfunctory online gifts that had become the norm and we thought something different would be a nice change. It took about two hours before we had planned a whole "imaginary" business that officially launched another six months later. We were officially living in the vortex.

This entire year has been made not only possible, but also incredibly exciting because of a decision we made in the first month of conceptualizing ApothoGothic:

If it doesn't flow, we let it go.

Seriously, it's as easy (and difficult) as that. There have been a handful of times throughout this year where we've gotten stuck on an idea and no matter what we do, it doesn't seem to work out. Ultimately, it's one of us that notices that and tells the other one. Lauren: Spoiler alert - it's usually me getting stuck on something happening in a specific way and Taylor has to show it to me...I'm super type-A like that. We've all had that happen where we get attached to what we think is the only acceptable outcome and we throw everything at making that happen...only for it all to fall apart.

When we sit back and allow the flow, the universe delivers something even better with no resistance. What's the best way to tell if you're on the right track? When you're in your "creative vortex," everything happens easily and at nearly lightning speed. We've had a few things dropped in our lap within hours of us talking about what we needed! The more control you like to have, the more difficult it is to adopt this amount of letting go - but trust us, the amount of freedom and ease that come from easing up is mind-blowing in the best way.

We frequently need to remind ourselves to give up control. Our daily lives present us with plenty of situations - we are the ones who assign them to the "positive" or "negative" columns. What if we stopped attaching labels to them and we started letting them unfold? What if we stopped looking at life as happening to us and instead saw it as happening for us? Once we give up control and allow life to progress on its own terms, the universe will present to us things we never even knew were possible.

When you ask for it, the universe will give you "this or something better."
