New Beginnings

“And suddenly you know: It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.”

- Meister Eckhart

The magic of new beginnings lies in all the corners that are unseen. We tend to walk through life on autopilot, and that includes how we meet new people, what walls we put up, and what we determine to be “good enough” to share. But what if we treated each new person we met like we absolutely knew it was going to be the most exciting adventure and rewarding experience wrapped into one package? What if we showed up authentic, open, and vulnerable? How would that change the quality of our connections with not only other people, but ourselves?

When we (Taylor and Lauren) met—not long ago at all—it was an instant connection. Our kids were working on a film, and we spent the day going between laughing at everything, and deep conversation…only to find out in the following weeks that we had more in common than not. It was like meeting a twin that we didn’t know we had. We could have easily spent the day making small talk and parted ways, but in this case we both chose authenticity over the mundane. Fast forward to what seems like five minutes later, and now we have another new connection: ApothoGothic.

During one of our conversations, we both noticed that for myriad reasons, our self-care was always put on the back burner. It didn’t matter if it was work, family, extracurricular activities…everything always came in as “more important” than self-care. Especially in the US, we’ve been conditioned to believe that self-care is selfish. We talked about what self-care looked like to each of us and it came down to an inclusion of all the senses. For us, music is especially vital to that process, becoming the “breath” of the ritual. Over the course of a few days, that conversation turned to, “How can we do this and help other people do this as well?”

When you connect with each sense—really connect in a mindful way—it can be equal parts exhilarating and uncomfortable. A song that takes you back to your senior prom…the taste of your favorite childhood meal…and holding your crush’s hand for the first time. That mindful connection opens you up to a set of visceral reactions to life and all its moving pieces. We’ve created this set of products not as your self-care, but as the physical components to enhance your self-care on a journey of reconnection—with yourself, your environment, and the world as a whole.

Connect with us and reignite your senses in the process.
